"Chris Mosio is an uncommon cinematographer. Chris was dialed into writer/director Doug Atchison's vision of Akeelah. There is a tangible synchronicity between these two filmmakers -- the proof is in the completed film. In my opinion, Akeelah and the Bee is a nearly perfect movie and Chris Mosio has made an enormous contribution in that regard."

bio

Chris Mosio studied cinematography and editing at the University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. He has worked professionally as a cinematographer for nearly three decades. Chris is also a faculty member at the DigiPen Institute of Technology where he mentors talented artists and animators.

Chris has worked on dozens of feature films. His range of experience covers both the micro-budgeted independent film and the Hollywood studio production, where he has worked with such talents as Will Smith, Laurence Fishburne, Angela Bassett, Lily Tomlin, Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Rhea Pearlman.

Documentary films are an important aspect of Chris' filmmaking background, and perhaps the genre he loves most. His work on "The Cultivated Life: Thomas Jefferson & Wine" garnered him an Emmy Award, a Telly Award and an Aurora Award for cinematography. His documentary travels have taken him around the globe, from the jungles of Brazil, to flooded villages in Bangladesh, to devastated areas of Haiti. Click here to track Chris' footsteps.

Chris has also filmed countless live concerts and music videos, including projects for Reba McEntire, Celine Dion, Dwight Yoakam, and K.D. Lang. His work has appeared theatrically, and on every major network and cable channel.

"Behind the camera is the place I love most. I've been shooting feature films, television, documentaries, live concerts and more my entire career.

I'm based in Seattle, but my work takes me most often to Los Angeles and abroad.  I love music and the great outdoors, and have been blessed by being able to incorporate them frequently in my work, as well as interests in documentary and social causes. Whatever the subject, working with dedicated, high energy people against the clock to produce something of beauty and creative worth is what fuels me.

I'm very thankful to have had the opportunity to work with some amazingly talented directors along the way -- Laura Carriker (Ramadan at the Cozy), Doug Atchison (Akeelah and the Bee), and Michael McNamara (Baldwin Hills), to name just three."
