Since I began using my “HOT DATA / DO NOT FORMAT” labels a couple weeks ago, I’ve had many inquiries about them. Seems everyone is experimenting with various methods for labeling a used media card. This was a simple task when we shot on film and writing “EXPOSED” on the canister said everything. We’ve had difficulty coming up with a universal term for a digitally “exposed but not yet duplicated” media card. “EBNYD” anyone? Even the word “Exposed” doesn’t fit with digital recording.
I rather like “HOT DATA” and have been using this on media cards for a while. It seems to be a very clear term for all involved. I designed these removable labels to fit on all the flash media that I use: CFast 2.0; SxS; RedMags; SD and P2.
UPDATE:
For about 3 years now, I’ve been giving away these labels for free. It was my contribution to the war against accidentally erased media cards. Now, I’m producing the same labels for purchase in rolls or sheets, which should be utterly convenient, and give you no reason to not save your data!
For now,
Chris
